Check a roll
Check any roll yourself
Enter a roll code. Your browser fetches the public random number straight from the source and works out the result on its own, without asking us what it was.
How a roll is decided
- When the button is pressed, the roll is matched to a public random number that has not been released yet. Nobody can know it ahead of time, us included.
- A few seconds later that number is released. Together with the roll code, it gives a number from 1 to 6, each equally likely.
- A 6 wins.
The exact method, if you want to redo the math
- When the button is pressed, the roll is locked to a drand round that has not been published yet.
- When that round is published, take SHA-256 of the round's randomness, a colon, and the roll code.
- Read the result one byte at a time. The first byte below 252 decides it: the remainder after dividing by 6, plus 1.
- A 6 wins.
